Working myself out of a job
My wonderful hairdresser and friend Stephana, and I were talking today as she was doing a fabulous job on my hair. I was telling her that our goal as moms is to work ourselves out of a job. We are to raise our children with the intention that they won't need us after they are grown. That doesn't mean that they won't want our help, but the point is they won't need our help. I see too many kids that have learned helplessness. They want their parents to do everything for them. Or they want someone else to take care of them. I want to work hard at teaching my kids to help themselves and give them the tools they need to be successful. Yes, sometimes it's easier to do things for your kids, because you know that it will get done faster, the right way. I'm guilty of that one! I keep reminding myself to look at the big picture and see what I can use as a teaching tool.
