You give love a bad name

Most of the time I'm pretty good about giving straight, common sense answers to questions from the kids. But yesterday Nate stumped me. We were in the van, listening to music, and he heard the song "You give love a bad name". Nate asked me what that meant. I really could not come up with a logical answer for an 8 year old. Any ideas? People help me out!

Eeek! That's tough, but you could say that you have to choose very carefully who you choose to love. Also that God has s/one in mind for him to love s/day and that he needs to ask God to reveal that person to him when the time is right. I have personally prayed for my kids and who they will marry s/day and for that future man or woman to make wise choices as well. Tough question but a great way to open up the doors of communication. Good luck!

I would normally suggest teling him that the singer is just plain crazy, but since it's Jon Bon Jovi I just can't. I love him. :)

Maybe just saying that some people are not as nice as they should be, and can hurt people's feelings. When you love someone who hurts your feelings, it gives love a bad name since that's not how God wants us to love people.

Good luck, let us know how it goes!
